Many of us think about upping sticks and moving every once in a while; whether you want to escape the hustle and bustle of London, or move to a bigger city for an exciting job opportunity. If you’re looking for a change, England’s southwest county Devon has plenty to offer, including vibrant cities and plenty of stunning outdoor scenery. If you want to know some of our favourite reasons for moving to Devon, see just four of the best below.

Local produce

Devon has a fabulous reputation for high-quality produce, and many top London restaurants source their meat from Devon farmers as it’s known for being highly flavoursome. There’s also plenty of wholesome pub food to be found, as well as rich Devon-made ice cream, the freshest seafood and Devon’s famous afternoon teas.

Vibrant cities

Devon has many cities worth visiting, including the historic port of Plymouth and the capital of the county, Exeter. There’s plenty of history to explore, including the Gothic Exeter cathedral and tours of the 14th-century tunnels beneath the city. There’s also plenty to be found at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum, including exotic animal displays, world culture galleries and fine art.

Visitors can also explore maritime history in Plymouth, plus more water attractions at the Plymouth National Marine Aquarium, picturesque marinas and the iconic Plymouth fish markets.

The great outdoors

The Devon countryside has plenty for lovers of the great outdoors, including many stunning cycling and walking trails, national parks and scenes for photography or nature enthusiasts. There are also miles of easily accessible beaches for watersports, sailing or fishing, plus acres of rolling Devonshire hills to explore.

A mild climate

The UK isn’t exactly famed for its good weather, but Devon tends to have a milder climate due to its southeastern location. While Devon is prone to more rain inland (this is still England after all), regular rain, mild winters and early springs combine to create the perfect climate for any keen gardeners.
